Here are more observations on Isaac Brooks and family.
Again, Ancestry.com census indexes are wrong.
Isaac Brooks was not in Oglethorpe county in 1820 census, he is really in Warren county.The same problem occurred with Brooks in 1820 Hancock county.If you look at the first page in Capt. Williams Dist in Oglethorpe county in 1820, you will see Warren county at the top of the page.
The Federal index shows the following Brooks entries in 1820 Warren,GA
Joseph Brookepage 277
Balam Brookspage 277
Catherine Brookspage 289
Charles Brookspage 279
Isaac Brookspage 292
John Brookspage 271
NancyBrookspage 287
The Federal index shows the following Brooks entries in 1820 Oglethorpe,GA
Gillus Brookspage 188
Samuel Brookspage 186
Littleton Brookspage 185
Wilson Brookspage 180
While researching Reese Brooks detailed in previous forum postings, I made an incorrect statement about Reese Brooks in 1840 Marion, Ga census.
1840 Marion,Ga census
Page 75 Reese Brooks(710th dist) 1010100010||00001
Page 75 Isaac Brooks(710th dist) 1100010000||10001
Page 72 James Brooks (710th dist) 0000010000||000001
I believe that Reese Brooks is age 20/30 and the elderly male 60/70 is possibly Isaac Brooks, Sr.His brother Isaac is living next door and possibly his brother James is living close by. I originally said that the elderly Brooks was possibley Reese Brooks Sr..
Going back to 1820 Warren census:
Page 292 Isaac Brooks (Capt. Williams dist) 240101||1311
Isaac Brooks age 45+(actually age 50-based on 1860 age of 90) has 7 males, 5 females and presumably a wife age 26/45. One male age 18/26 and one female age 16/26 would put their births around 1794 -1804.I would assume that the wife is closer to 45.
The name Reese is very important with my current thinking about Isaac Brooks.There were a number of Rees(e) families in Warren/Columbia counties during this timeframe.
One particular Rees(e) stands out.
In 1826, Hugh Rees made a will.In this will, he leaves various assets and money to his children and wife Elizabeth(Newsom) Rees. He also leaves money to the children of his deceased daughter, Elizabeth Brooks.
In 1805, Isaac Brooks purchased land from Hardy Newsom which adjoins land owned by Hugh Rees in Warren county on Big Briar Creek.
With further research, I suggest a case could be made that Isaac Brooks was married to Elizabeth Rees and she possibly died between 1820 and 1824,since Isaac remarries (Fanny Kitchens) on 1/15/1825.
In 1830 census for Warren:
Page224 Isaac Brooks1030000010||21001.
Isaac now has a male child under 5 which could be Jordan by his new wife Fanny who is age 20/30.Also there are two females under 5.That’s three in five years, very busy.
I have not been able to find a census record for Isaac Brooks in 1840 or 1850. In 1860 he was 90 years old.He was 45+ in 1820 and 60/70 in 1830.If he were exactly 90 in 1860, it’s possible that based on the date(day/month) of the census, he could be 60/70(60) in 1830 and 60/70(69) in 1840.That is also the age of the male living with Reese Brooks in 1840 Marion.Marion county was carved out of Muscogee and Lee counties in the 1827 land lottery, so maybe someone in the family received land in the original Muscogee or Lee counties.Reese and Elizabeth Hamilton Brooks were married in 1836, he would be about 19 in 1836 and she would be about 14.Because of their age, it’s possible that Isaac, Sr moved with them prior to 1840. They also had a young son, Isaac age about 2 in 1840.
In 1850 both Reese(33) and brother Isaac(43) are the right age for two of the males in Isaac Brooks’s h/h in 1830 census.Also there was a James Brooks in same district in 1840 Marion county about the same age as Isaac.
Now Isaac Brooks sons could be:
James
Isaac
Reese
Benjamin
Jordan
Jacob Brooks?
JosephBrooks?
? Brooks
Total 8 males.
Now back to Reese Brooks.
Reese Brooks marries Elizabeth Hamilton on 12/19/1836 in Warren, Ga
From the 1830 Warren census, it appears that her father may be:
P211 Daniel Hamilton000010||21001
Daniel Hamilton from Warren county won a land lot in Muscogee, Ga in 1827.Part of Marion county came from Muscogee.Maybe Daniel gave his daughter Elizabeth this lot and that is where they are in 1840 Marion.
There is a Chappell Brooks in 1850 Warren.
Chappell came from the Rees family, I think Harrison Rees married a Chappell.
Part of this story is fact and part speculation, but hopefully, someone will help fill in the speculation part and correct any facts that I might have missed.
