Wow, Shirley_This looks like there might be hope after all.Was Mary's Wright husband from Harris or Randolph when they married?.One of my grandfather's brothers lived in Randolph. His name on the census was Joseph, but my mother would insist that his name was Joeby.
Do you have anything more about Moses' William? You saw the family names that my William J. used.I believe Nancy P. was a Swanson name.Do you descend from this William? Is he accounted for in marriage and children or is he free to be my William?I am still a bit confused about your William.
My William J. named his first son William, but no one seems to know what happened to him after 1870.This William must have been born about 1859.I see that a William Brooks married Victory Trammell in Troup Co. in 1885.I have no knowledge to tie him to my Thomas Jefferson other than age and proximity.
I looked through a paper file and found some other puzzling clues:
I found a list (dated 8/2001) of descendants of Thomas Jefferson Brooks who was born in 1795.He married Patience Story and then Sarah Fincher. He fathered seventeen children.Moses Terrell was one.His John William was born in 1851 on this list.Thomas Jefferson, b. 1795, had a son William J. born in 1827, but he married Martha Step.I see that Mary, d oT.J. married James P. Williams.(I have a lot more on this undocumented list if you are interested.)
Pull up Brooks Family Genealogy Forum for October, 2000, #4454, to see that Thomas' William J. was born 10/22/1827.(This came in part from a book by a Mrs. Astin.)
Pull up the same forum for August 2001, #5107, to see a shorter list of Brooks children with similar names. (Mary, Indiana, Cal, John F. and William J.)Other follow up writers seemed to place these in Warren County.
Pull up this forum for December, 2001, # 4721, to see children of John Brooks as Isaac and Terrell.Others place this John in Chatham, NC.This John supposedly brought his wife and children to the U.S. in about 1735 after stopping in Barbadosand then in Jamestown, VA. before moving to NC.
If this does not rule out my William J., please write so we can share what we have. This extra information will probably confuse you as it has me.If this were on a current page, someone else might straighten my thinking.Perhaps someone will pull up all posts containing these names before too long.
Ann
