John Brooks, Esq. and wife Susan of Chatham Co., NC
For those of you researching this elusive family lineage, has anyone run across a reference to John BROOKS Sr. being born in March 1685 in Bolton, Yorkshire, England?Wife Susan born about 1690 also in Yorkshire?Married about 1709 in Yorkshire?(This is the John Brooks Esq. father of Thomas, Joab, John, Mark, James, Isaac, Martha, etc. ... list of children is still "up in the air" ... I've seen so many lists ...)I'm supposedly descended from John's son John (what a relief, he's always on the lists) -- born either 1815 or 1827 or any number of dates in between.
I'm famboozled about this whole John Brooks/Susan Brooks/Susan Narsin/Winifred Narsin lineage and would sure like to hear some intelligent and thoughtful ideas on the matter. The more I get into this, the more confusing it gets.At least two researchers I've run across say he wasn't born in England, he was born in York County, Virginia. At least one other researcher suggests he may have been a son of one Christopher Brooks and was born not in England, but in Barbados, West Indies.
All this is complicated because there were so many individuals named John Brooks at that time. This name is worse than Smith or Jones. Please, is anyone out there interested in some friendly discussions, exploring this further?Has anyone hired a professional genealogist to research this issue?(I wish I could afford one.)
Thanks for listening --
