Searched all my Brooks info on file, here's what I found for you--
Lawson Brooks, b.c.1795, m.Catherine Moyers (d/o George)26 August 1820 (bond 25 August), Botetourt Co., Va. Lawson was in the War of 1812. I stongly suspect he was the son of Jonathan Brooks and Margaret Reyburn who were married 20 Oct 1789 Bote. Co. There are six wills listed in Anne Lowry Worrell's "A Brief of Wills in Montgomery and Fincastle Counties, Virginia."
"Some Ancestors of the Baughman Family in America" by J.Ross Baughman (Roanoke Library, Virginia Room 929.2 B326s, pg.135) lists Jacob Moyer, Jr. d.1795, buried Noffsinger Cemetery-Bote.Co., wife Sarah, and son of the immigrant Jacob Moyer. Known children: 1-Dorthea b.25 Dec 1787 Bote Co., d.14 Sep 1873 Marble Creek, Iron Co., MO, m.21 Jan 1805 Bote.Co. to John Baughman; 2-Adam; 3-Elizabeth. A search of "Botetourt County History before 1900 Through Cemetery Records", there are three Noffsinger (Noftsinger) cemeteries in Botetourt County and the only entries of interest (the Brooks entries are n/a) would be: Noffsinger Cemetery at the end of Rt. 707 on Mulberry Bottom Farm on Craig Creek: pg.78 3602.-Moyers,__?__ June 9?-Apr 19,1825 and the next entry 3603. J. and P., 1814? (not sure if 3603 is a Moyer or not, but thought I'd include it anyway).
Worrell's "Early Marriage, Wills and Some Revolutionary War Records, Botetourt County, Virginia" lists a will: Jacob Moyer, deceased April, will ret. July 1795.
My copy of the 1820 Botetourt County census by Charles T. Burton includes: Brooks, Tunis, Roanoke River: males 0-0-0-2-0-0, females 2-1-x-0-0-1, 2 not naturalized; Moyers, Adam, James River: males 2-0-1-2-0-1, females 1-2-x-0-0-1; Moyers, Conrad, location not listed: males 1-2-0-2-0-1, females 1-1-x-0-0-1; Moyers, George, Carvin's (Cove or Creek?): males 2-1-0-0-0-1, females 1-4-x-1-1-1; Moyers, Henry, James River, males 0-2-0-0-0-1, females 0-0-x-3-0-1.
This was a pretty thorough search of everything I have. Hope some of it may be enlightening. Sincerely, Dianne Metz
