Constance, Thank you kindly for your time and information. No, actually that is not the right Marcena, as I abruptly found out recently- there are two Marcenas, uncle and nephew. My Marcena is the elder, the brother of Edward. Edward named one of his sons Marcena as well. The younger remained in Ellicottville his entire life. The elder Marcena was born in 1789 and though titled a farmer, he moved so much I don't see how he could possibly have accomplished much with regards to crops. He too was born in .... Brimfield, MA, I believe, lived in several locations in NY before moving to Ashtabula OH. He was found on an 1850 census for Ashtabula Co., as well as my GGG-grandmother's marriage chronicled on Ashtabula Co. records. He was indeed married to a Sarah Boss of Albany, NY. In Ashfield, NY records, a Charles Boss name is close to Marcena Brooks. Unfortunately I am unable to find any further information about Marcena or Sarah once they had moved to OH. There was an epidemic of Cholera c.1850, and a Sarah Brooks & family passed, but I'm told it was not the same family. GGG-grandmother Almira Brooks Ives & hubby Edwin moved to MI and settled in my father's ancestral home of Niles, MI. Again, thank you for your time. Perhaps someday I'll find the story I'm seeking.
