Christine, I am interested in your info on Anderson Brooks because I believe him to be the stepfather of my great-grandmother, Tennessee (Tennie) Brooks who married Timothy L. Hixson in Hamilton County in 1890. The marriage record lists her as Tennie Lamon although many of the family said she was a Lemons. The story was that she was born a Lemon (Lamon, Lane) and she took the name Brooks after her mother married a Brooks. She signed ner name Tennie Brooks Hixson when she signed a ration card. She had a Carl Brooks come to her funeral and sign her register, and a Wilbert Brooks (Wilburn?) listed as a brother in her obituary. I believe Carl was Wilburn's son and her nephew. She was born about 1874 and I noticed that in the 1880 census of Anderson Brooks and his wife Mary E. (Lane) she was not listed as living with them. In the 1890 census she was already married to Timothy Hixson. A cousin just sent me information that an obituary from 1951 of of a Mary Shelton (nee Brooks) listed a sister Mrs. Tin Hixson of Chattanooga and a brother W. M. Brooks of Cleveland TN. Seh also an obituary for Vitrivus Kennedy Brooks from 1945 lists Mrs. Mary Shelton and Mrs.Tennie Hixson, both of Chattanooga and one brother, Wilburn Brooks of Cleveland, TN. She also sent a death certificate for Wilburn Milton Brooks lists Anderson Brooks and Mary Jane Lane as his parents. Thanks to my cousin, I think that ties my Tennie Brooks Hixson to you Anderson Brooks. Do you have anything that mentions Tennessee Lamon, Lemon, Lane who married a Hixson in your info? Any info will be appreciated. Delores Straight Notify Administrator about this message?
