Did you see the James Brooks in the 1880 Haralson Co, GA census?
He's listed as 25 which puts him about the same age as your Palena Dean. Wife is listed as C. Nancy age 25 Sons, C John 6 and A. William 4. Page is #15 of 20 per Ancestry. All were born in GA and parents were b GA.
There's a James Brooks b 1855 GA in the 1870 Carroll Co, GA census (pg 87 of 181) son of William 42 (b 1828) and Margaret 33 (b 1837) both born GA. Their other children are listed as:
Wilson 14
Jane 12
Thomas 8
Mary 6
Sarah4
Octavia 1
Another James b 1855 GA is found in the household of Hiram (40) and Caroline (39). Siblings are Pinkey 12, Franes 4, Isaac 3, Georgiann 3 months.
The 1880 Wolf Pen, Haralson Co, GA census (pg 3 of 6 per Ancestry) shows Polena Dean 23 living with her widowed mother and sister Mary E. 21. The only family this seems to fit in earlier census would be John (37) b 1823 and Ann Dean (33) b 1827 GA. They appear in the 1860 and 1870 census together w/ children Josephine 3, William R. 2 and Elizabeth 1. Perhaps this is your Polena Dean's family and her parents called her Josephine instead of Polena.
