It sounds like you have a copy of the same letter that I have.
Are you familiar with the book,
"Thomas Taylor and Benjamin Branch of Nashville, Tennessee and Related Families" by Ethel Taylor Ford?
It has the complete Confederate history of Joseph F. Brooks.
This book also stated that Joseph and Hester were buried in Potosi, Texas. I have not confirmed this so I don't know how reliable it is. There is a lot of misinformation in this book too.
Do you have Joseph's siblings other than the one sister?
The same book above has down that William Carol Taylor married Octavia Brooks, niece of Joseph F. and Christopher M. Brooks. If she is a sister to Joseph F. Brooks who married Hester Augusta Hendricks, then the two brothers would be uncles of Joseph's also.
I also found where a Joseph F. Brooks married Frances Taylor, sister to William Carol and Christopher M. Brooks married Sally S. (Sarah) Taylor, another sister to William Carol Taylor.
I would be happy to give you the confederate history of Joseph F. Brooks born 1 Mar 1842 Nashville, TN died 23 May 1916, Potosi, Taylor Co., TX---
