Zachariah Smith Brooks was the son of James Brooks and Elizabeth Smith Brooks. Her parents were Nicholas Smith and a Cherokee woman named DOWNING. I know that Nicholas Smith resided in Franklin County GA, but died in Richmond NC while going to visit family. I know that he had numerous children by his Cherokee wife, apparently never married anyone else, and descedants remained in the Franklin County GA area. I would welcome any information regarding James Brooks and his marriage to Elizabeth. I know that Elizabeth was dead by 1784 and that she died in Franklin County GA having born a number of children.
