Eliza Jane Smith (b.4/17/1817, Chesterfield, VA, d. 8/27/1902, VA) who married Rev. George Gibson Brooke, (b. abt. 1809, d. 12/8/1878,VA), a Civil War Chaplain who served in the company of Gen. John Imboden, on 2/16/1835, Walnut Grove, Greenbrier Co., VA) was the daughter of Ballard Smith, a lawyer, and "Polly" or Mary G. Davis, (b. abt. 1789, d. abt. 1889). "Polly" Davis was the daughter of John Davis and Jane Clendenin, (b. abt 1758, Greenbrier Co., VA), a survivor of the Clendenin massacre. Eliza Jane Smith and husband, Rev. George Gibson Brooke, had two sons, Ballard Brooke, a medical doctor, and Benjamin (Benjie) Brooke. Both died in service during the Civil War. They had one daughter, Mary G. Brooke, "Molly", b. 5/7/1853, VA), who married Lewis George Penn, a son of Andrew Penn, who descended from Thomas Penn and Col. Abraham Penn. Mary G. (Brooke) Penn, "Molly"died February 14, 1939, Richmond, VA. She was never hospitalized for mental illness.
Daughter of Lewis George Penn and Mary G. (Brooke) Penn, LOUISE DENNY PENN,("Aunt Lula"), b. November 17, 1884, Salem, VA; d. January 01, 1985, Williamsburg, VA 23185. She had been hospitalized in Williamsburg, VA for mental illness. However, she corresponded frequently with her relatives.
