The following is from a letter dated Nov. 11, 1863 from Brig. Gen. John Imboden. commending Rev. George Gibson Brooke as a chaplain in the Confederate Army: "I have known Mr. Brooke as a minister of the Gospel for several years past, and regard him as one of the most useful and one of the best men I ever knew." Imboden says he needs assistance with his cavalry unit based in Richmond. Apparently, Rev. Brooke was living in Covington, Va., in Alleghany Co. at the time of the letter. Again, any help identifying this Brooke family would be appreciated. I've just run across this quotation in a letter from my mother. The full text of the original letter is apparently in my grandmother's possession and I will try to get a copy of it. -- Frank Taylor W. Melbourne, Fla.
