Dear Minga,

Was reading with interest your listing of the Brooke family. I am descended through Catherine Booth and Robert Brooke's daughter Mary Brooke who married Leonard "Leo" Tarrant. There are records that show our Robert Brooke being alive as late as 1712 - in 1692-1706 he served as the Justice of Essex County VA. This comes directly from Essex COunty Records.

His son Robert Jr. brother to our Mary Brooke Tarrant was a great surveyor of land. In 1716 he went with Captain Alexander Spotswood the colonial governor of VA on a dangerous surveying mission into the Shenandoah Valley - his bravery earned him the title of "Knight of the Goldne Horseshoe". Much of this information comes from the Guide to Virginia Genealogy written in the early 1900's by Professor St. George Tucker Brooke of Morgantown West Virginia.

I am not familiar with a son Richard, only the children Mary, Robert Jr., Humphrey, and William. Would like to discuss further your input on this family

Darlene
