Bronte family - Points for clarification
I am seeking clarification about whether the Bronte family lived in relative wealth or rather under more difficult financial circumstances? Furthermore there is often a fanciful notion that that the famous daughters were somewhat isolated from the rest of society, yet produced brilliant insightful works from limited social exposure. This seems unlikely to me as they did indeed travel to nearby cities and mixed well with other writers. Furthermore their clergyman father Patrick was a well travelled and learned man himself and must surely have similarly inspired his daughters and assisted with their writing concepts etc. I believe that Patrick had even produced some works of prose himself but I have never had this confirmed. It is also interesting that no photos of the family seem to survive. Admittedly it was very early when the sisters died yet around 1855 when Charlotte died photography was very popular. One wonders whether there are still photographs in private collections, either from Haworth or elsewhere? Please feel free to comment on these fascinating topics. Any comments welcome.
