I don't have anyinformation about Thomas's ancestors.I've been trying to determine who Elvira's parents were. She was apparently born in Halifax Co, VA 1820/1825, orphaned rather young, and was bound out to Wm. H. Bates 1834; bound to Joseph Crews(McCraw?) 1835 in Halifax Co, VA.In 1850 she was head of household with son(?) Theophilus:
1850Halifax, VA Northern 948: p. 34 #518/521
Elvira Moorefield 25
Theofulus 5
Theophilus died in 1856:
1856 HALIFAX COUNTY, VA DEATH RECORDS
Thomas Moorfield age:11y mother:Elvira Moorfield
and she married Thomas in 1858 in Yadkin Co, NC.
I have Samuel W.'s DoB as about 1860 and the first child of Thomas & Elvira--is that correct?I wasn't aware that he had been married before.Did he have any children by his first wife?
As for Elvira's parents... I **speculate** that she was the daughter of Edward Morefield b. @1805.In 1830 there were two females age 0-5.Edward disappeared after 1830 and Elvira was bound out in 1834.I also *speculate* (but with more supportive evidence) that Edward was the son of Moore & Ritty (Strange) Morefield.Moore was the son of John Morefield (Sr.), who died in Halifax Co, VA about 1811.John was *probably* the son of Edward Morefield, who died in Halifax Co, VA in 1785.Ritty (Strange) Morefield was the daughter of Julius and Sally (Stokes) Strange.Ritty & Moore married 6 jun 1798 in Halifax Co., with John Morefield as the bondsman.
