Alan Reid Brodie, died unexpectedly, Oct. 18, 2010 at his home in Chicago at the age of 79. He was born in Portland, OR on Nov. 13, 1930 and attended Grant High School, graduating in 1947. He was a Reed College graduate in the class of 1951. Alan graduated from the University of Chicago Law School and was admitted to the Illinois Bar in 1954. He served in the U.S. Army and practiced law in Chicago in the law firm of Bell, Boyd, and Lloyd from March 5. 1957 until Dec. 31, 1987 and lived in Chicago until his death. Alan's older brother, Laird C. Brodie predeceased him by 15 months. Survivors include his sister, Eleanor B. Jones; nieces and nephews, Ann Brodie-Knope, Carol Davis, Randy Jones, Walter Brodie, Margaret Kiser; and 10 great-nieces and nephews; and four great-great nieces and nephews. A very close friend, Bill Hoffman of Chicago, also survives Alan. A gathering to celebrate Alan's life is planned for Nov. 13, 2010 from 12 noon until 3 p.m. in Gray Lounge in Kaul Auditorium at Reed College. Remembrances may be made to the charity of your choice.
