Have found David Brodie (3) b. 1861, s/o David Brodie (2) b.1827+Rebecca Dykes (married 25 August 1851) in the 1871 census living with his grandparents, David Brodie(1) b. 1791 and Christian (Ritchie) Brodie, in Bonhill, Dunbartonshire. This David Brodie (1), then (1871) is cited as 80 years and also a "joiner".
I don't know if David Brodie (3) cited as age 9 was by this point is orphaned, or whether his parents may have emigrated by this point.
