Otto Brodie was married to my grandmother, Blanche Ione Gilfillan, and I'd love to know about their families and ancestors.

Otto was born Sept. 27, 1888 in Cheyboygan, Wisconsin, and died April 19, 1913 in a plane crash in Clearing, Illinois. He is buried in Montrose Cemetery, Illinois. He married my grandmother, a nurse, in 1909 in Chicago. He was one of the first people to hold a pilot's license in the US and according to one of my relatives, learned to fly from one of the Orville Brothers!

The 1910 US Federal Census shows Otto and Blanche married, and living as lodgers in the home of Thomas Rodkey and his family in Chicago Ward 3, at 37 Prairie Avenue. Otto's occupation is listed as aviator. Otto's age is given as 23, Blanche's as 27. It indicates that both of his parents were born in Wisconsin, as was her father, and that her mother was born in " Canada Irish".

Blanche Ione Gilfillan was born August 5, 1882 in Lacrosse County, Wisconsin and died December 20, 1960 in Brooks, Alberta, Canada.

The US Federal Census of 1900 showed a Blanche Gilfillan living with her grandmother Mrs. Samuel Haughton, listed as head of the household, at 72 Park Addition, West Salem Village, Lacrosse County, Wisconsin on 5 June 1900. She was going to school at the time of the census (June 1900), confirmed her birth as Aug. 1882, and age as 17. Her sister was also going to school at the time.

Blanche and Otto had two children before his untimely death: James Haughton Brodie (1910-1987) and Robert William Brodie (1912-1995).

My father(from Blanche's second marriage) will be 88 soon, and would dearly love to know much more about his family.

Thanks for any help and advice.
