when the 1881 Census was taken they were living at 224 Tabard St he was 43 born at Caputh in Scotland I have found a family group that probably is his at Caputh 1851 census but I am not sure of the relationships Elizabeth was 33 in 1881 born Northumberland, England Two children Mary Anne 6 born London, Middlesex, England and a son John age 4 born same place.
He did his apprentiship as a shoemaker in Dunning Scotland where he was on the 1851 census age 15 there.
I think that Robert was the brother of my greatgreatgrandfather other family members may have lived near the England/Scotland border I have a couple of photo's but no names. All I know was this girl with long hair photographed in 1924 was 18 and had diabetes and was a Brodie cousin. I also have a photo of a Betty Brodies wedding in the early 1930's
