Fern Brodie was born in Buffalo, NY on June 13, 1920. She lived in Derby, NY, as well as Pennsylvania before moving to Chicago. She graduated from the University of Michigan and her post graduate degree in social work was from the University of Chicago. Fern worked on the Blind Baby Project at the University of Chicago and co-authored a book concerning this project. While working on this project, she met her dear, life-long friend, Helen Hiland. Fern's 34 year career as the Administrator/Senior Social Worker for the philanthropic organization associated with Crane Co. enabled her to meet and be of service to people in many parts of the world. She was an active member and volunteer of many organizations including the Chicago Methodist Temple, Renaissance Court with the Department of Aging and the Eleanor Club. She won many awards for her outstanding service to others. Loving aunt of Dr. Roger (Christine) Kallal, Sue (Charles) Maki, Marcia (Ken) Lorenz and their families; dear friend of Gina. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation, 833 West Washington Blvd. Chicago, IL, 60607 appreciated. Visitation Sunday, Sept. 10 from 10:30 a.m. until Funeral Service at 12 noon at Lakeview Funeral Home, 1458 W Belmont Ave., Chicago, IL, 60657. Interment private. For info, 773-472-6300.
