Surname spellings were not standard. Check Scots birth and marriage, as well as LDS-IGI for Broadie, Broadwood, and Braidwood. When in Scotland checking their indexes, I was able to identify my Braidwood ancestors by known dates and parents under all these spellings. A number of Braidwoods immigrated to USA and Canada, sometimes using name Brodie. My great Grandmother Braidwood is recorded as saying, "We are Brodies." See my posting Feb 1, 1999 herein.
