Hi Jeanette,
My great great grandfather John Brodie lived in Gourock. He married Ann Ross on 23 April 1839. Their son John, my great grandfather, born 1850, came to New Zealand in 1875. I have a bible signed " John Brodie, Gourock, 1844 ". My research hasn't gone much past this point yet, but still looking. Hope this helps.
