Madeline (Brockway) Salls

FORT MILLER — Madeline (Brockway) Salls, 90, of Fort Miller Road, died Friday,

April 25, 2008 at her home, surrounded by her loving family.

Born Oct. 24, 1917 in Fort Miller, she was one of 18 children born to the late James and Eunice (Flanders) Brockway.

Madeline’s greatest accomplishment and joy came from working at the former Hawley Home for Children in Saratoga Springs. She also worked for Angel Soft Paper Mill in Thompson for many years.

She enjoyed her family life and was a master of many household duties. She enjoyed her yard work, house cleaning, knitting and word puzzles, but most of all, spending time with and being around her large extended family.

She is predeceased by her parents; her husbands, Alfred Santabar Sr. and Duane Salls; her son Alfred Santabar; her son-in-law Byron Stover Sr.; grandchildren Phillip Stover and Cheryl Lyn Stover; brothers Edward, Bill, Roy, Lewis and James Brockway; and her sisters Phyllis Barber, Margaret “Peg” Sanders and Lois Woodard.

Survivors include her children, Beverly Rainville (Eugene) of Saratoga, William Santabar (Donna) of Virginia and Barbara Stover and her companion, Keith Seymour, of Fort Miller; her stepchildren, Leonard Salls (Lorraine) of Greenwich, Larry Salls of Florida, Lorraine Petralia and her companion, Bob, of Schuylerville, Lori Joe Cook (Kenneth) of Schuylerville, and Lee Salls of Schuylerville; her 18 grandchildren, Vicki Sutherland, Lori Potter, Cathy Pepper, Diane Rainville, Billy Santabar, Sherri Hall, Gina Fremeau, Jody Bennett, Byron Stover Jr., Jay Stover, Donna Salls, Kelly Parrish, Tammy Williams, Stacy Brennenstual, Matthew Santabar, Scott Santabar, Lisa Santabar and Delia Gray; sisters and brothers, twins Joan Provost and Jack Brockway, Linda Fish, Mark Brockway, Raymond Brockway, Ethel Loomis, Beverly Brousseau, Flora King and Arlene Loomis; and several great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call from 1 to

3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 28, 2008 at the M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 82 Broadway, Fort Edward. Email condolences may be sent via the Web site, www.kilmers.com.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at the funeral home, with the Rev. Charles Bailey, pastor of the Fort Miller Reformed Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Fort Miller.

Donations may be made in her memory to the Hospice of Washington County, 415 Lower Main St., Hudson Falls, NY 12839 or to the Fort Edward Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 226, Fort Edward NY 12828.

The family would like to thank Washington County Hospice, especially Hospice Nurse Michelle and Dr. Taneja for all the special care and help they have given.
