Brockschmidt cousins, you may already know this but just in case -- the Brockschmidts of Washington County IL, and PROBABLY the Adams County Brockschmidts as well, came from the farming regions and villages aroung Venne, a small town northeast of Osnabruck, in Hannover, Germany. The Lutheran church in Venne is a gold mine of genealogical info, and their records (in old German script) are available on microfilm through LDS family history centers. I found many Brockschmidt baptisms & marriage records, along with some familiar collateral surnames. An interesting twist: Gerhardt Sr was born a Frickenschmidt, but took the "estate name" of Brockschmidt. I am still working to find out how/why that happened, and would appreciate your help if you have any info on that. But if you look on the Venedy IL plats, the original Brockschmidt land is bordered to the west by a Frickenschmidt family.
