I may have a lead on EVA SHATTUCK for you. My great-grandparents were Ada Roth and Alvin French.(They were born in early 1870's). They divorced in 1901(?)
My grandmother, their only child, was born March of 1899.
Because of the taboo of divorce,she never knew her father (she didn't even know his name until high school!)
Now I am trying to find more about ALVIN FRENCH. Here's what I know.
He was born in Buffalo, NY. He appears on three ship's
manifest records traveling from San Francisco to London, Havana to NYC, France to NYC. On the trip to London, it lists Ruth French (married,25-born in Colorado), Jean P French (widow, 41), and EVA FRENCH (widow,72) as traveling with him. On Alvin's SSec. Death Record, his mother's maiden name is stated as SHATTUCK and her birthplace as WESTFIELD.
Do you think there is a connection? As I said earlier, I am
just starting to trace this line. Because of the divorce, no one ever talked about it! Ada Roth lived to be 103 and never remarried!
