Broas Bros., Pie Bakers, 1863, New York City
Posting #4 on this Forum mentions the Broas Brothers Civil War tokens of 1863.The brothers were bakers and pie makers in New York City during the war.See the following for illustrations of a couple of these tokens:

My question is: Who were the Broas Brothers?Surely there is a connection to James Ira BROAS, b. 1813 and listed as a baker in the 1860 census for New York City. But "Brothers" implies that there was more than one Broas involved. From the genealogies on the Roots Web World Connect Project, I find that James I. had several sons, including Henry Clay and James H. who were b. ca. 1844-45.But they would have been a bit young for such an enterprise, and were also serving in the military for portions of the war.
Was one or more of James I.'s brothers possibly involved here?If so, which?
A large quantity of these Broas Brothers tokens were produced, probably vastly more than the number of pies baked by them.
