Dear Kathi, I, Mildred, live with my daughter Margaret in Maryland. She is the one who understands much about computers. I could only get your message with her help. I have within the last few years put "all" I have been able to find on the Brodnax family into a history of the family. At this time this material exists only as an unpublished manuscript. This should embrace, at least, all the male descendants of our immigrant, William Brodnax who married Rebecca Champion, widow of Edward Travis. The immigrant died 1727 in Jamestown, Virginia. I have made an unsuccessful effort to identify the William E. Brodnax of Florida. There is a William Edward Brodnax Senr. born about 1777 in Lunenburg Co., VA, supposedly died in Hancock Co., GA before 13 Jan 1834. He was the eldest son of Stephen Edward Brodnax and Elizabeth Rebecca Danzee. He married in Amelia Co., VA 22 Jan 1793 Ann Brooking, daughter of V. Brooking who consented to the marriage. Ann died Mar 1857 in Augusta, Georgia, buried in Magnolia Cemetery, Augusta. This William E. Brodnax showed in the Hancock Tax lists through 1825. He was on the 1820 census of Hancock in Capt Fannins Dist p102 as William Brodnax males 1(10-16) 1(16-26) 1(+45); females 1(-10) 2(10-16) 2(16-26), 1(26-45). In 1827 there were a series of deeds from William to his children. 1830 Hancock Co., GA p147 showed William Broadnax males 1(20-30) 1(50-60); females 2(15-20 1(50-60). This is the census of William E. and Ann Brooking Brodnax. 27 Nov 1830 a Hancock deed showed William Brodnax of Hancock to William E. Brodnax of Richmond for 654 ac on Beaverdam Cr., a mortgage declaring that the land was conveyed to William Brodnax by his father, William Brodnax in his lifetime. /s/ William Bronax 1840 census of Putnam Co. GA p194 Dist 309 showed Ann Broadnax: male 1(-5) 1(5-10); females 1(20-30) 1(60-70). There was found no probate record for William Brodnax. 1840 census Duval Co., FL p139 William E. Brodnax male 2(10-15) 2(20-30) 2(50-60); females 1(30-40) 1 slave, total 8. 1850 census of Florida, I found no census for William E. Brodnax in Florida. 1850 census Duval Co. FL p113 Black Creek Dist #85 William J. Brodnax 45 GA; Mary 36 FL; William 16 FL; Edward 14 FL; Robert 7; Ely 4; Mary C. 2. From this and subsequent censuses I concluded the following: 1. William H. Brodnax, b abt 1834 FL, died after 1866 FL, married Mary ___ b 1834 GA. A. William Brodnax b 1858 Duval Co. FL. B. Robert Brodnax, b abt 1860, Duval Co., FL. C. Eliza B. Brodnax, b 1871, Duval Co., FL. D. Christiana Brodnax, b 1876, Duval Co., FL. 2. Edward C. Brodnax, b 1836 FL, married Louisa ___, b Feb 1843, FL. I have some more but all from existing records. You seem to be a descendant of this family. I wish very much to know all you know of this family. We have been unable to even speculate who this William E. is. There are problems in the Brodnax family of Georgia and several are known to have abandoned their families. I have wondered if this is the case of The Georgia William E. Brodnax.
