Obituary, 1923:
William T. Broadhead, one of the best known members of Ellis Post, Grand Army of
the Republic, died Sunday at his home, 6315 Jefferson St. [now Cherokee St.],
age 75 years. Mr. Broadhead served in the cavalry [Co "F", 8th PA Cav] in the
Civil War. Until his health failed, about two years ago, he rarely missed a
meeting of Ellis Post. He was commander of Ellis Post for a term and for many
tears he was officer of the day. He was also frequently a delegate to the State
Encampment of the Grand Army. Mr. Broadhead was a in demand as a speaker at
campfires and other celebrations of Ellis Post. Mr. Broadhead was a plasterer by
trade. Until a few years ago he lived in East Germantown. The funeral took place
yesterday afternoon from the chapel of Kirk & Nice, burial following at Ivy Hill
Cemetery.
