Broadfoot Family Genealogy Forum

Rory, you are going to be amazed at just how many Broadfoot's there are in the USA. I am Donna Broadfoot Brown, daughter of Lindell L. Broadfoot (died 1992) who was the son of Lennis L. Broadfoot an artist who resided in Salem, MO. Lennis was one of 14 children, 10 of them male. Lennis father was James H Broadfoot and mother was Elizabeth Cagle. All of us descend from a David Broadfoot III, b.1675 in Cutcloy, Wigtownshire and d. 5-11-1730. There are many of his descendants in the St. Ninians church cemetery. The name was also Bradfute in Scotland. Marion Bradfute, daughter of Sir Hugo Brodfute the Earl of Lamington in 1296 was the wife of Sir William Wallace.
You may wish to contact William A. Brobst, Curator, Brobst Family Historical Society at brobstwa@interpath.com. Hope that address it still current. He has much on the Broadfoot family. There are also many Broadfoot's in Canada. Most of us descend from three brothers who emigrated to the U.S. I have quite a lot on our line. If you wish, I'd be happy to send you a copy. My only Broadfoot uncle still living is 80 and lives in Idaho. He had no sons. My only brother, Ron Broadfoot was killed in 1996 but he leaves 5 Broadfoot sons. The only other uncle left one son who lives in Arizona. My grandfather's brothers left quite a number of Broadfoot boys to carry on the name. Lennis Broadfoot, my artist grandfather, published a book called, "Pioneers of the Ozarks" which includes sketches of Missouri pioneers along with their individual remarks made at the portrait time. It's out of print now but can still be purchased on some bookfinder type online sites. I have some of his prints if you are interested. Guess they would be considered "folk art."
Good luck on your tour. Donna Broadfoot Brown in Oregon
