Hi Patricia,
I am also from New Zealand. My Broadbent family has lived here since they arrived in Dunedin in 1879.Their hometown was Preston, Lancashire, England. The earliest that I can trace is to James(1) Broadbent and Mary Simmonds. My greatgreatgreat grandparents.
It was my greatgreat grandfather George Broadbent who immigrated to Dunedin. He was born in 18/3/1849 to the above, and was 30 years old when he arrived here with his wife Mary Ann Porter.George had 4 younger brothers and sisters: John, James(2), Edith, and Mary.Unfortunately, I haven’t established whether any of them also came to New Zealand, nor do I know anything of their descendants.
James is one of our family names (along with William, John, and George). In my estimation James(1) Broadbent would have been born any time from 1810-1830.James(2), 1850-1870.
I would be interested to hear how your ancestors came to New Zealand.Do you know what ship they arrived on, or the New Zealand towns that they lived in?Dunedin, Wellington, and Auckland figure pretty commonly on my tree.
Hope to hear form you soon,
From Julie
