MARGARET AND MARY BROAD, CORNWALL 19TH CENTURY
I am looking to expand my base of information from what I know. Here is what I know:
My great grandmother was named Rebecca Braven. She was born in 1835 and died in 1889. I believe my great grandfather (Charles Barrett Dyer) located in Golant because his work and their relationship. It was customary for hub to move to wife's home town.
I believe her father was was Wlliam Braven and mother MARY BROAD of Golant. This would be one of at least two times the BROAD name enters the family.
I am not clear that MARY BROAD who married William Braven came from Golant. Broad is a well known Cornish name and a family that seems to have centered on Fowey, not far from Golant. There are a number of Broads who are mariners in the area from the 17th century on, including the famous Flemmish national heroine, Mary (Broad) Bryant whose epic voyage in escape of the Botany Bay Prison Colony has been the subject of books, novels, and movies and aTV miniseries.I do not know of a relationship to her.
BUT the name BROAD enters my family picture a second time with MARGARET BROAD, who died in childbirth in 1872, giving birth to my grandmother, Mary Giles, in Tywardreath, Cornwall.Tywardreath is just down the road from Fowey.Indeed, the entire Fowey River Valley is only a few miles from near Bodmin to the Ocean.
So, if you have info I would appreciate it to help be expand my knowledge of my family.
