JOHN BROACH of VA was FRENCH!!!
There has been, for some time now, some dispute as to the nationality ofThe "John Broach(e)" of Virginia. Some researchers have reported that he was English, at least one researcher, other than myself, Col. Doyle, has suspected that Dr.John Broach(e) (of Williamsburg, Queens Creek and later of Yorktown, in the area now a part of New Kent Co VA,possibly even Eltham VA) may have been French. It has come to my attention thru my visits to the VA State Lib in Richmond, that in "The Virginia Genealogist", Vol 20, Number 3 issue July-Sept 1976...there is an article reporting on some"Inquisitions on Escheated Land, 1665-1677" page 259....it appears that some hearings were conducted when the lands of John Broach(e) were Escheated and returned to the King, this being a record of said hearing conducted
"York Co, Jan 1674 (os or 1675) (by) Thomas Ludwell, Esq., Escheator General, Writ 5 (as dated above). (The) Jury finds that by a patent (of) Sept 16 1639, John Broach, was seized of 300 acres, on Queens Creek. The 300 acres doth escheat". And further..."That to our knowledge Braoch was a FRENCH man borne." Witnessed by:
