I am afraid I can't help you with your Stephen Brittenham/Brittingham. My interest in that line was due to the fact that I was helping a woman join the DAR under her Brittingham ancestry.
Since your Stephen was born in 1826 in Worcester Co. Md. I would check the 1830 Census for that county, to see if there is a Brittingham, with a child, age 0 to 5, as Stephen would have been 4 years old in 1830.
That will give you some clue, as to who his father probably was.
