My G-G-G-Grandfather, Poonahman (George Brittain) was born circa 1800 near The Pas, in what is now northern Manitoba. His children were likely born anywhere from 1825 to 1840, either at The Pas, Cumberland House or Fort a la Corne, depending on which part of the Saskatchewan River they were living on at the time. This "white" name was given to my ancestor and his family upon baptism in 1846. It's quite likely that it was the family name of one of the Hudson's Bay Company employees or a member of the clergy or their family, as these would have been the only non-Native people in the area at the time. Do you have any Brittain connections with the Anglican Church or the Fur Trade?
