Canadian Cree Brittains
Hi.....my great great great grandfather was given the name George Brittain when he was baptized in Cumberland House Saskatchewan in 1846. His real Cree name was Poonahman. Does anyone have any connection between the Brittain name and the Hudson's Bay Company or the Anglican Church in Canada during the mid 1800's? I'd like to know where the name came from. There are many Cree Brittains in Saskatchewan, and most reside at James Smith Cree Nation, a reserve near Prince Albert.
Thank you,
John Leclair
