Sandy,
George Jr. was born 3/27/1751 in Middlesex Co., VA so he would have been about 28 when the bond was filed. I don't know Sarah's date of birth so no idea of her age at the time. Not sure what the laws were then regarding underage marriage.
However, bastardy bonds were not filed by the parents of the expectant mother; they were filed to protect the county from the expense of raising the child. You may be able to obtain a copy of the bond from the NC State Archives in Raleigh; but since George paid the bond, I doubt her parents' names would be on it.
From mountainpress.com:
"When the pregnancy of a woman or birth of a child was brought to the attention of the court, a warrant was issued and the woman brought into Court. She was examined under oath and asked to declare the name of the child's father. The 'reputed' father was then served a warrant and required to post bond. If the woman refused to name the father, she, her father or some other interested party would post the bond. In some cases, the mother and reputed father together posted the bond. If the woman refused to post bond or declare the father, she was often sent to jail."
George Jr. served as a soldier in the Revolutionary War. He was in the Granville County Militia Regiment commanded by Col. Richard Henderson, 1771; company commanded by Capt. Jonathan Kittrell. His brothers James & Philemon also served as soldiers in this unit, while their father George Sr. served as the unit's drummer.
I descended from James, so I haven't done much research on George Jr. What I've found has turned up in the course of looking for information on James. But, hope you find it to be of some help.
Best wishes,
Ronda
