Hi John Hood
Benedict Bristol was an ancestor of one of the largest branches of the Bristol family, descendants of Henry Bristol of New haven, CT.
The father of Jonathan Bristol was Henry Bristol (#12 in the book "The Bristol Genaelogy"). Henry in turn was the youngest child of Henry Bristol of New Haven, CT, by Lydia Brown.
Years ago unscrupulous genealogists would sell false links to British nobility (some of them also false)to unsuspecting Americans. There is a website that attempts to expose as many of these as they can find. This looks like one of them, as no one really knows who Henry's (1st, of NH, CT) parents were.
One of the WORST among Bristols is the fictitious Daniel and Hester (Sperry)Bristol of England. There is no record of any such persons, marriages, births, etc. Henry of NH had a son Daniel who md. an Esther Sperry and this is well documented. But the alleged English fiction spreads like a virus mostly due to the internet.
Through my 35 years of Bristol research I have come across a few stories which someday when I find them I can collect into a file for all to enjoy. One was propagated among some very close relatives of mine who until just a few years ago couldn't connect their branch to Henry at all. The story was that three English Lords who were brothers came to America. We are in the John Line. John was a brother of your Henry aka Berhope.
As a very curious researcher, I would enjoy the opportunity to see the alleged ancestry starting with your Berhope aka Henry for about four or five generations.
It would be a very special treat for me.
If you don't have the Bristol Genealogy, you can find your line on the website of the Bristol Family Association website at
When you get there scroll down to a link to "Some Bristols", when you get there, just click on "Henry" (#11) and it will take you to Jonathan, and so forth. It ends at Benedict.
