My husbands Briscoe line also came from Crofton Hall. But instead of going to the States our line went to Ireland. Abigail Briscoe born in 1685 at Great Orton married her cousin Henry Briscoe of Ireland. The family lived at Tinvane Tipperary till 1881. I have seen Crofton in Cumbria. The large Arch entrance is still there with gatehouse either side. Is there a photo anywhere of Crofton Hall. Abigail was the dau of John Briscoe & Mercy Johnson. They are both buried in the Porch of the Thursby Church. John died in 1690.
