You will find most any name spelled a dozen different ways for a number of reasons. Sometimes the census taker or a court clerk wrote it based on how it sounded to him. You will also find it spelled Bristow or Bristeaux. You have to be willing to accept any spelling that sounds like the name you are looking for & also accept that sometimes there is no connect at all even though it sounds like there should be a connection. You will often find court records on the same person spelled two or more different ways.
