Information I received says that this ship was named after Admiral Robert P. BRISCOE who was a native of Centreville, MS with service in WWI, WWII, and Korea. He retired as four star Admiral and is buried in Liberty, MS. Centreville and Liberty are both in Amite County, MS in the southwestern part of state.
