Since the Brisco Clan is so large, would anyone know why some of the family have and e added to the name?

My Paternal family resided in Texas and new Mexico, my grandfathers name was Jessie Brisco and my grandmother was Josephine Taylor Brisco......If anyone knows about this part of the family please e mail me.
