15 January 1835, Edgefield District, South Carolina, W.C. Hall sold to John Briskey, "a certain tract of land lying on the waters of Cuffee town Creek, containing one hundred and fifty acres, more or less bound on the north by land belonging to McDuffie and Reel, on the south by land belonging to James Harrison, on the east byHardins' and Bells lands and on the west by Reols land." This deed was witnessed by E. Rainey and John Norris. ( I'm sorry that I am not sure about the spelling of Reel and Reol)1850 census, Edgefield District, South Carolina, John Briskey; age 55, Christina Briskey, age 47; John W, age 22; George, age 17; Catharine, age 15; Margaret, age 13; Eliza, age 11; James, age 8; and Ann, age 7. From the 1840 census there would have been another male and another female. I haven't found any of this family except Margaret, on any records after the 1860 census in Edgefield County, South Carolina. John Briskey's parents were Nicholas Briskey and Elizabeth Merck, b about 1764. Some think that this family name was changed from Brisky to Briscoe after they moved to Alabama, Mississippi and Texas after 1860. I would appreciate any information about this family.
