Ray, Gustavus Villiers Briscoe and his daughter are listed on peerage.com, from county Meath, Ireland. Earlier than that, there is George Villiers Briscoe born 9/26/1858 in Clonmel, Kilkenny, on the IGI. I am researching a Paul Briscoe from the early 1800s on Main St in Clonmel, estate agent and auctioneer....he is likely the father of my Agnes Briscoe, who married Jeremiah Gilbert in Dublin, 1848, St. Thomas Church. Their son James Briscoe Gilbert is my great grandfather, who migrated to Liverpool and died in Manchester, England.
I have run into the Villiers surname many times in my research, on both Irish and English trees. Baronial family? If I recall correctly, that is so.
In any event, the George Villiers Briscoe and Paul Briscoe both of Clonmel indicate we may have a tie somehow.
