My grandfather told me that someone in his mother's family was the lone survivor of an Indian raid. After his parents were killed, the baby was found by a passerby who took the baby home and raised him as his own. We do not know if the baby's name was Brinkley or if that was the name of the man who raised him. We believe this happened in Pennsylvania in the late 1700s.

My gr-grandmother, Mary Agnes Brinkley Fehrenbach, was born 1874 in Clarion Co, PA, and descended from James Augustine & Margaret Jane Harriger Brinkley.

James A. Jr, born 1844 in Westmoreland Co, PA, descended from James Augustine & Elizabeth Aaron Brinkley

James A., Sr., born 1807 in Westmoreland Co, PA, descended from William & Rachel Brinkley. Little is known about William & Rachel. He may have been the baby that survived the Indian raid.

DNA testing could tell us if the Brinkleys of PA are connected to the Brinkleys of NC and VA. I hope the PA Brinkleys will join your DNA test.

Bea Fehrenbach Mansfield
