Brinkley Family Genealogy Forum

There is a web site posted by a Marc Brinkley which states that a Frances Brinkley, who bought property in Rowan County in 1801, was the wife of a William Brinkley. This is the same woman that was the mother of John, Stephen, Elizabeth, etc. I descend from her son, John, then Alexander, then Henry then James Marshall. I have spent a lot of time researching the Brinkley family history. There is no tangible evidence nor proof that Frances was married to a William. Her husband is unknown at this time and until some proof is offered, will remain unknown. Have researched several William Brinkley's during the late 1700's and none of them match. Quite a few of them do not match. I believe that Frances came from Granville county, NC as at least three of her children went back there to be married AFTER they moved to Rowan County. That implies that they knew people and most likely had grown up with these spouses to be. I believe that her husband could have been Richard of Granville, but I have no proof of that either, so we really do not know. I wish there were evidence that it was a William or just evidence of anyone. At least we would know.
It really serves no purpose to put unconfirmed information on the web. Will just make it harder down the road for our children and our descendants to trace their lineage.
