doug,
henry was born in davidson county and was the son of alexander brinkley. alexander moved to mitchell, yancey, county area about 1849. henry stayed around davidson. he married mollie and had been seeing her during the civil war. after the war, they moved to glen alpine, burke county, nc. henry was the first postmaster of g.a.
henry's grandfather was john brinkley who lived in meckenburg county, john's mother was a frances brinkley who setteled in rowan county(now davidson) in 1801 when she bought property there. i believe she came from granville county, where 3 of her children went back to be married. her husband is unknown. it appears not to be william, even though there is a web site circulating by a mark brinkley who claims that william is her husband. and i do not believe that she was a brinkley prior to marriage. i believe her husband is richard of granville county and that they moved there from the nansemond county area of virginia.
stay in touch and let me know what you find out.
jim brinkley
