Did James Brindley have a Brindley uncle?
My Grandfather, Thomas Brindley told me that our family were related to James Brindley (not another one!) through an uncle of James, James of course had no legitimate sons and I believe no Brindley uncles, according to what is known.
This information may be contraversial but circumstances may give it an ounce of truth.
My Brindley family took over the running of Rough Hey farm at Gawsworth, Cheshire when Henry Brindleys grandson Joseph Brindley died. I believe it is only fairly recently that Henry Brindley of Rough Hey was proved to be James's brother.
My great great Grandfather, John Brindley died at Rough Hey in 1886, whilst visiting his brother Francis Brindley.
This link is a mystery that I am trying to solve and may be of interest to people studying the canal engineers family.
Any thoughts welcome.
