Yes, this is the same John Canter. My database shows that John and Lucy had a daughter (unnamed in the Madison Co records) born Mar 2 1857. Lucy may well have died at about that time as John married Elizabeth on June 25, 1857 in Madison County, KY. In 1860, John and Elizabeth lived next to William Slaughter (brother of Lucy Slaughter) and they had a 3 yr old daughter named Amanda C. (presumably the daughter of John and Lucy)
The Mary (aka Mollie) Brim who married William Winkle Jun 17 1886 in Jessamine or Garrard Co KY was daughter of John Brim (brother of Patsy/Martha Brim who was stepmother of Lucy Slaughter). Death certificates of two of the Winkle children show Mary's surname as Canter. Could she have married a Canter before Mr. Winkle???
