Hi Dawn,
Yes, Brigstock info is hard to find, because there are just a few of us here in the US!Even though I can't seem to match up a William and Jane with my info, there is a Michigan connection. This is what I have in a nutshell.I descend from John and Martha Brigstock, who settled in Virginia.
The Brigstocks were living in several English counties during the 17th and 18th centuries, but primarily within the counties of Northampton and Leicester. There is a Brigstock Parish in Northamptonshire. The family name goes back several hundred years but the line has been unable to be traced definitively prior to 1750.
It appears that at least four Brigstock brothers came to America around June 1852, though no port of entry record has ever been located. These four brothers were Abraham, John, Thomas, and Joseph.Abraham is thought to have perished on the voyage over from England -- his luggage arrived but he was nowhere to be found.John brought his wife Martha Neesam and their very young son Thomas Neesam Brigstock on the voyage. The families settled in the area of Spencerport, NY for a while until in 1859 diptheria struck and killed three of John and Martha's young children. The families then moved on to Michigan (I believe the Battle Creek area), where they remained until after the end of the Civil War.
In the late 1870's, John and Martha moved their family south, leaving John's brothers in Michigan (that would be Joseph and Thomas). They moved first to Sussex County, Virginia, and later to Prince George County.Thomas (the son of John) married Rosa Fergusson there in Prince George.John's other son, William(born in 1858), lived there for a while too but received a land grant in Oregon and relocated his family there after 1900.
John and his brothers were born in the 1820's, and were the sons of Thomas Brigstock, who was born in 1799 in Leicestershire, and was married to Elizabeth Coterill.Thomas was the son of Abraham and Jane Brigstock of Leicester.
The only William I have been able to locate however seems to be the one born in 1858.Let me know if any of this strikes a connection for you.I also have info on family crests, motto, colors, and such.
