I have a connection (twice) with Brightmans from Ampthill and/or Houghton Conquest.
William Brightman, born 1852/3 married Mary Thorp(e).According to the 1880 US census their children are JANE and ALICE.They apparently later moved to Junius in Seneca County and are buried there in Southwick Cemetery. They also appear in a 1896 list of Presbyterian church members in Junius. I had assumed that the William in question is the one baptized in Dec 1853 at the Wesleyan Methodist in Ampthill, since that was where the Thorp's were baptized as well. The family seems to be from Houghton Conquest.
Mary was the daugther of Robert Underwood Thorp, who emigrated to Lock Berlin, along with his wife and 5 children around 1875, according to various census records.I assumed William Brightman came along at the time - I do not have his census records. The other Thorp's are all buried in Lock Berlin cemetery.
Robert's brother Thomas Tharp (Thorp) married Elizabeth Brightman in Houghton Conquest 11-15-1864.I'm not sure how Elizabeth and William are connected, although I would bet that they are.
I am descended from Robert's brother, Jeremiah.
