Hi Hazel,
I was delighted to find your post. You are working Stewart and Humphreys Counties and my concentration is in Dickson and Montgomery!Maybe we should compare some notes!
We live in a area called Yellow Creek in what is now Houston Co.My wife is a descendent of Hugh DICKSON who bought his first 150 acres of land in Dickson Co. in 1803.We live on that land. You could find the Farm listed on the internet in the Tennessee Century Farms Program for Houston Co.
But to the Brighams....
Thought you would find this of interest:
Dickson Co. Deed Book F, pg. 232
"16 February 1837.Robert CALDWELL of Dickson Co. TN to Hugh DICKSON as trustee of the same county & state. For $1 and in consideration of the good will and affection which he has towards his step children Mary Ann BREGHAM and Endymon BREGHAM children of his wife with her first husband and also our beloved child Isabella Eliza CALDWELL, he sells negros Sarah (about age 20), Sandy a boy (about age 4) and Hannah a girl (about age 2).A condition is set that they are for the use and benefit of the Children.Martha (his wife and mother of the children) shall have sole benefit arising from the said negros during her life. After her death Hugh DICKSON or his executors shall manage the property to the best advantage for the named children and any further increase.Robert restates his purpose of this "deed of gift" is for the benefit of his wife for her life and to go to her children and any more that may be born after her death.Witnesses: W. B. JOHNSON (Second on illegible), Signed Robt. CALDWELL.Recorded 3 May 1837.
I really haven't tried to work this daughter of Hugh DICKSON and her husbands.Your listing is wonderful in that it gives her first husband's name and a court record (Humphreys County?).
Would love to share a few stories with you.
Russ James of Houston Co. TN
